How to Use Liquor POS Software to Speed Up Checkout Lines

Think to a time when your wife (or husband/significant other/friend/etc.) called you while you were on your way home from work. They wanted you to pick up a bottle of Cabernet. You stopped into the first liquor store you saw, thinking it will be a quick trip. While standing in line, you realize it was not a quick trip after all. Your mind may have ended up wondering, “where is the next liquor store,” “why is this line so long,” and “does my wife really need this bottle of Cabernet?” save-time-stay-on-top

Today, you are a liquor store owner, or manager, and want to cut down the wait time for your customers. You have been there and want to make the trip quick for them so they continue to come back. Here are a few ways Liquor Store Software can make the line run more efficiently and smoothly for not only your customers, but your employees as well.

The use of barcodes and 2D Scanners.

  • Using barcodes will allow your employees to quickly scan in items, making the transaction go faster. Additionally, using barcodes eliminates human error when entering a product or price manually.
  • Using 2D scanners allows your employee to scan the barcode on the back of drivers’ licenses to check for age verification. Additionally, this eliminates human error in reading the incorrect  date or not noticing the license is expired.

Search by Item or Product Type

  • mPower Beverage’s Point of Sale allows your employees to search by item or product type. For example, Jane comes into the store and she wants to know if you have any Absolut in stock. Your employee can quickly let Jane know if the item is in stock and the quantity. If she were to ask what brand of vodkas are in stock, your employee can simply look up [vodka] and let Jane know.

Line Busting

  • Use a tablet and a scanner to bust up your lines. Take the tablet to the customer and ring in their transaction. You may also assist customers with questions like Jane may have had from before, if Absolut is in stock or what brand of vodkas are in stock.
  • Additionally, you may use the tablet to take physical inventory count.

More Awesome POS Tools

  • Quick Keys: Use the quick keys to quickly tender out a customer, add a customer to the transaction, put a transaction on hold, and more.
  • Automatic discounts: These will be automatically applied during the days and/or times of your choosing for promotions. They will also be applied on on-going discounts such as, two 12-packs for a price of a case.
  • Email receipts: Save paper! With modern technology and the shopping habits of today, most customers either do not want their receipt, or would prefer it to be emailed to them. Have the option to not print, print, or email the receipt within your POS system.

These are just a few of the ways a modern point of sale system for liquor stores can help you speed up your lines. To learn more about us and how we can help you run your store more efficiently, please contact our sales team at (877) 396-0141 or click here to fill out the contact form.

Thinking About Upgrading Your Liquor Store POS?

Upgrade Your Liquor Store POS

Point of sale technology has progressed rapidly in recent years. Traditional registers and outdated point of sale systems do not provide business operators with the right information to make effective business decisions. This can leave their customers with a less than satisfactory experience. With a modern point of sale system, you can track inventory and create meaningful relationships with your customers.

However, making the decision to upgrade or invest in a new liquor store point of sale system can be a BIG decision. Here are signs to watch for to see if your store is outgrowing its current system.

Customer experience is suffering.

Can you offer your customers promotions or rewards? Can you process EMV transactions? Do you offer Apple Pay? Your customers are looking for ways to save money and earn rewards. Studies have shown that if rewards are offered, customers will spend more. Additionally, ways to pay are constantly changing. In the beginning, it was just cash, and then debit and credit. Now businesses need to be EMV compliant and as smart technology grows, Apple Pay and other payment methods will become more popular. Even the checkout process can affect the customer experience. POS transactions going slow? Card processing taking too long? By addressing the little things, you can improve the customer experience.

Unsupported solutions.

Is your current point of sale system out of date? Are you happy with the level of support that you are receiving? Having an up-to-date POS system and support for your POS is very important. If you are having technical issues, you should be able to reach someone for assistance in a timely manner and without having to pay a hefty fee. The system should always work as advertised. If you are considering upgrading or installing a new point of sale system, ask for a personalized demo and find out how support works. Make sure the system does exactly what it says it does and that support is included. If you wish to schedule a demo with mPower, please email the sales team by clicking here.

Multi-location and/or transferring issues.

Do you have more than one store but are unable to see all the information from a centralized location? Having visibility into all of your stores’ inventory and selling velocity data is critical. If store A is on the verge of running out of Vodka Y and store B has an excess of Vodka Y, you should be able to seamlessly transfer that product to the store in need. mPower Beverage solves these issues. E-Commerce issues.

Do you have a website or are you thinking of building one? Does your current system seamlessly integrate with your website? Being able to manage your e-commerce efficiently is important when running your online store. You need to be able to change pricing and product when required. mPower Beverage sends your product and pricing information to your website every five minutes. To learn more, click here.

Lack of insights.

Are you able to see what products are selling quickly? Which products aren’t selling? Are you able to generate sales and comparison reports? Being able to see what product is selling  vs. not selling is critical information needed to make effective business decisions. mPower Beverage Software offers its users complete insights into their business. We have over 70 customizable reports, which can also be converted into charts or graphs for visual analysis.

Most importantly: Your current system doesn’t align with your needs.

As your business grows and evolves, your point of sale system should grow and evolve with you. It should be able to meet your needs as they change. For example, when EMV began to be required on October 1st, 2015. A merchants preparedness relied heavily on their point of sale and card processing providers. Some providers did not deliver on-time or as promised, forcing some retailers to purchase a new point of sale system. mPower Beverage Software was prepared and was one of the first liquor store point of sale softwares to offer EMV compatability.

If that isn’t reason enough for you to check out mPower Beverage Software, support AND software updates are included in your annual support agreement. We take pride in providing our customers the best customer service and support possible. We listen to our customers to make sure the software is evolving with your needs.

5 Promotion Ideas for Your Liquor Store

5 Promotion Ideas for Liquor Stores

Being the owner of a liquor store brings many responsibilities. Within those responsibilities, you will need to learn how to promote your store within the restrictions of the liquor industry. However, there are many things you can do within your store to attract new, and returning, customers. Offering a fun experience and customer appreciation can go a long way.

Here are 5 promotional ideas that will help you to leave a lasting impression on your customers.

calendar1. Tastings

Offering your customers of a sample of an item that you are promoting can be a great way to increase sales of that item. You can even go one step further to offer different cocktails by using the same spirit. By having a variety of choices, your customer can see how versatile that item is. Just remember to keep the samples small so no one can become impaired and to do the samples on your busiest days to give you the best chance to sell the product. (Depending on your store location, be sure the tastings are allowed based on your state laws and obtain a state permit when required).

sale (1)2. Product Promotions
Offer product promotions. These can be in the form of build your own 6-pack, buy 2 get 1 free, buy 2 get $3 off, buy a case discount, and so much more. Choose the best promotion for your product and customer base. Promotions can also align with tastings or wine club by utilizing promotions during a specific day and/or time. Check out how easy to set up promotions within the back office within mPower Beverage Software.

giftbox3. Promotional Items
By offering your customers a promotional item, you are giving them a reminder of you. Offer Koozies with your logo, address, and/or phone number. Keep pens on the counter with your logo as well. To go one step further, keep bigger promotional items such as t-shirts, beer mugs, or wine glasses on hand and give them to anyone who spends a specified amount of money within the store or buys a certain product. For example, Suzie comes into the store and spends $65 on wine. Joe gives her a t-shirt upon checkout for spending over $50. Another example would be Jack comes in and buys a bottle of Grey Goose. Kelly gives him a low-ball glass with store logo upon checkout as a promotional item for purchasing the bottle of the week.

star (1)4. Loyalty Rewards Program
Have a loyalty rewards program within your store. Offer rewards in points or dollars to entice customers to come back. By offering customer rewards, you are increasing the possibility to gain repeat customers and having them spend more than their intended amount to reach a desired reward. Check out how easy to is to set up loyalty rewards within mPower Beverage.

yelp5. Social Media
Social media can be a key component of advertising your store. Promote your products or events on your social media. Encourage reviews on Google, Yelp, or social media platforms. Additionally, you can utilize social media platforms to promote causes you support, upcoming fundraisers or sponsorships. Most importantly, don’t forget to be authentic. Let your customers get to know you and build a relationship with you and the store. This not only gains repeat customers, but it spreads your store by word of mouth.
